Doing The Triathlon

Triathlon
9-12-10

Yesterday Litia,Raenan,Lorenzo,Brooklyn,Tui,Logan,Isara,Chante and I went to Mountfort park to do the Weet-bix Triathlon. I had butterflies when I got there because there were heaps of people. I was the 3rd or 4th group to race, out of thirty one people I came 3rd. The swimming would have been the hardest because people kick you in the face, I still got past them and came 3rd. When I got out of the pool I quickly put my shorts,T-shirt,shoes, and helmet and raced my bike to the exit. I heared Miss.King and Chris cheering for me. For the prize giving chante won a bike. Thank you to miss King, Alex, Chris and all those other adults that came to support us. Also I would like to say a huge thank you to Hayley Palmer for training us for the triathlon. School biking and running practise at school was probably harder than the real one. Hope you enjoyed my story.

Reflection

My Reflection for 2010

This year I have enjoyed playing with my friends and telling Jokes. One of my favourite games is go home stay home. I have enjoyed learning how to play base ball, I love doing cool things with Cola. I would like to have done more time on the computer because I love doing E-learning tasks and blogging. I could have worked at pod casting and xams. Some of my best memories were Totara springs and cross country. I’ve had fun this year even though I have been in America for 4 months. Get better at my school work and having neater writing.

My best Friends

My best friends

Hi my name is Teresa and I have 4 sisters (2 step), I also have 1 brother and (1 step). My best friends names are Litia, Vivienne, Lola, Jay lee, and Tauwhare. I have only been to Litias house because she is my best best best friend. They all care about me and I care about them. It is fun playing with each at school because we race each other and we all know she is faster than us. My life with my five friends.

Portable Swimming Pool

3/11/10

‘’This life jacket is cold,” I said to Litia. It felt cold and clammy. As we were eagerly awaiting to hop in the pool Chris told us to hang our towels up.

Chris is from Water Safety NZ, he is very kind. Chris teaches the whole school about safety, one of the safety rules is to float on your back and don't panic. Our school is lucky to have Chris and the pool. It is cool because you can move it around. The water is warm when the sun shines on it and a little bit cold when its raining. (Room 15’s swimming days are on Wednesday)

When I hopped in the pool I walked to the end and floated on my back. When Chris said "Get into a huddle," we quietly sung the national anthem. We had heaps of fun.

Scientists classify the animal kingdom and sort them into 7 categories. The animal kingdom have different groups like invertebrates and vertebrates. They were put into place where they had lived.

Invertebrates are animals and insects with no backbones, (97% of the animal kingdom). Vertebrates are animals with backbones like birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and mammals. Vertebrates have warm blood, hair and their mother.

Some of the groups are arthropods which include segmented body's and joined legs.
annelida also include worms.

Immersion assembly Term 4

Today the whole school went to the hall for immersion assembly. The two performances I liked the best were the worms and NZ’s next top little critters. The topic this term is Little critters, my favourite item was the worms (miss Tito & Mrs Nua) because theirs is short and funny, I liked Nz’ next top little critters because they had good expression.

The worms were funny because their big eyes, and because they slithered all over the stage. They were wearing sleeping bags over their heads. Miss Lavakula looked cool with her costume on. Everything was interesting.

The mosquito, was scary for some people. Immersion assembly is fun. I also liked it when Miss Wild screeched, it was funny. The bee Colony was funny because of the babies. When it was finished I wanted t stay. By Teresa

Cross country

Today when the bell rang everyone started walking to the court for cross country. As I waited my mind thought I would not do well. Suddenly Mr Burt called us over, I was nervous. Then Mr Burt clapped the clappers and all the girls sprinted off very fast. I was in the lead but then Dante sprinted in front of me. Half way so I slowed down a bit. I had a very bad stitch but when I reached Helen (tall one) she said, “Go”Teresa.

As I ran around the cones I heard people cheering, then I saw my parents , they were telling me to run fast. I had a sore foot but I said to myself "champions never give up". I was coming second and the race was almost over. I bet some boys and they started 2 minutes before me.

At the end I was very very exhausted. I really needed a drink because my mouth was dry. My sister Leslie came fourth. My best friend Litia came second as well. Everyone was very very tired. Everyone is ready for the finals next Wednesday.

Karate kid and Six flags

Hi room15

On Friday my sisters and I went to Six Flags. It was fun, first we went and did some rides then went to the water park. One of the rides I went on made me scream and Michelle said be quiet but I couln't because it was too scary, the ride was called Batwing. At the water park I went on every slide.

On the 5th of July I went and saw the new karate kid with Jaden Smith in it, my favourite part was the ending how he won a trophy in a tournament. The part I didn't like was these Chinese boys beating him up, they were stronger than him at first but then Jaden was stronger than them after. At the very ending he was really strong and went to tournaments where he fought all the Chinese boys and won. Jackie Chan taught him everything that's why he was so good.
A funny part was when he was flying to China on a plane and there was a man across from him. Jaden's mum told him to say in Chinese Ni hao, Ni hao ma, Ni jiao shenme which means, hello how are you what is your name, and the man said dude I'm from Detroite. Everyone laughed.
Hope everyone is having a fun holiday. BYE

Planets

I have been doing a project on planets. Mars is the smallest planet of these four (mecury, earth, venus and mars) and earth is the biggest. Mercury is difficult to study from earth. Mercury is closest to sun and pluto is the furtheist away from teh sun. My favourite planets are mars, jupiter and neptune. Mercury is not visible for long, mercury rotates very slowly it takes almost fifty nine earth days for it to spin on its axis. The intense sunlight takes the daylight side of mercury and sends the temperature soaring to 800 degrees farenheit.

The Sun

The sun is a glowing ball its very, very hot gas. The sun is about 99.9% of all the material in the solar system. The equator of the sun rotates once every twenty-five earth days. This ball is 71% hydrogen and 27% helium and is held together by its own gravity. It is kept from collapsing by the pressure exerted by the hot gas. At the sun's center, the temperature reaches over 27 million degress fahrenheit and the pressure is huge. Our sun has been hining for 4.5 billion years.

Venus

Venus is the brightest object in the night sky. Venus looks like a pale yellow featureless disk. Venus is sometimes called Earths sister. Venus is hotter than Mercury the closest planet to the sun. Named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty, diameter is 7,520 miles and the temperature averages 870F. Venus is sometimes called Earths sister because they are almost the same size. The temperature on venus is more than four times hotter than boiling water. The air is poison! And its so thick and heavy that a human being would be crushed before he or she even tried to breathe it. Venus is the easiest planet to find in the sky. It looks like a big star that shines brightest just after sunset or just before dawn.

Earth

The name comes from the Anglo saxon word meaning "land". Its diameter is 7,92 miles and the temperature is between 129F and 136F. Earth looks like a beautiful blue and white marble. Teh white is from the clouds that swirl around our planet. The blue is from the water that covers two thirds of earths surface. The heat inside earth sometimes causes volcanoes and earthquakes. Many astronomers think earths water came from a storm of icy comets that hit earth when it was forming.

The Moon

Also called Luna, after the twin sister of the Roman sun god. Its diameter is 2,155 miles and the temperature is between 300F to 260F. The moon is about 240,000 miles from Earth. The moon's gravity is much weaker than Earths. If you weigh 60 pounds on Earth, you would only weight 10 pounds on the moon that means you could jump really high. The surface of the moon is gray and rocky. Since there's no wind or rain, footprints in the moon's dust will last forever. There is no water, air or wind. There is a layer of dust over everything and there is no atmosphere on the moon.

Mars

Named for the roman god of war and the diameter is 4,218 miles and temperature is 190F to 90F. Mars is the planet that is most like earth. Mras has mountains, deserts and volcanoes. Its year has seasons like our year. A day on mars is about the same length as a day on earth. Still, Mars is very different from Earth. There is almost no oxygen in the air, so humans couldn't breathe. There is no rain, so it is always dry and dusty. Dust in the thin air makes the mars sky look pink instead of blue. Mars also has two moons! The moons are tiny, the bigger one is only 16 miles across. And they're not round they're shaped like potatoes. Mars is sometimes called the red planet because the soil on mars is full of red rust.

Jupiter

The temperature averages 240F and the diameter is 88,846 miles. Jupiter has 28 moons. Jupiter is the biggest planet in the solar system. Its twice as big as all the other planets put together. Jupiter is called a "gas giant" planet because theres no solid ground anywhere. It is a gigantic ball of gas with a hot liquid center. Jupiter is covered with white, blue and brown stripes. There is also a big red spot on Jupiter thats more than twice as big as earth. The spot is a storm that has been raging for over 300 years.

Saturn
Saturn has more moons than any other planet. Astronomers think there are at least 30. Like Jupiter, Saturn is a giant gas ball. One year on Saturn equals 30 years on earth. Saturn moves very slowly around the sun. Saturn is called the ringed planet. All the gas giant planets have rings but saturns is much, much bigger. Saturns rings are made of pieces of ice and rock that orbit the planet. Some astronomers think they were made by comets crossing into some of Saturns inner moons and smashing them into pieces.

Uranus

The temperature averages 350F and the diameter is 31,760 miles. Uranus is a cold planet. Uranus has rings as well as saturn. Its rings are made of ice and rock like Saturns. They are much smaller. The most unusual thing about Uranus is how it spins as it travels around the sun. Astronomers think Uranus might have been knocked sideways by a comet or asteroid billions of years ago. Instead of spinning like a top as it orbits, it rolls like a bowling ball because of Uranus's unusual spin, a night on uranus can last for 42 Earth years.
Neptune

The temperature averages 30F and the diameter is 30,755 miles. Neptune is very similar to Uranus. Its about the same size. Its very cold. It has several rings, there are some differences about Neptune cause it looks blue not green. That is because the atmosphere is made of different kinds of gases. Neptune has much wilder weather than Uranus. There are storms on Neptune with winds over 1,000 miles per hour, thats ten times faster than the winds in a hurricane on earth! Neptune has eight moons. One of Neptune's moons orbits backward! Its the only moon in the solar system that orbits in the opposite direction of its planet.

Pluto

The temperature averages 390F and the diameter is 1,485 miles. Pluto is so far from Earth that astronomers don't know very much about it. It is always dark and cold. Its also tiny, it is smaller than Earth's moon. Many astronomers today think Pluto shouldn't be called a planet, they think its more like a large icy comet. Pluto's moon charon is almost as big as Pluto itself.

My Trip to Niagara Falls, Boston and New York

On the weekend I went to a different country, Canada. It was so cool, we went to Niagara Falls. We hopped on a boat right under the bottom and went right under the falls. It was cool at night because the falls glow with yellow, blue, purple and more. The next day we drove to Boston it was very long, but we still go there. Boston is very much like New Zealand. After looking at Boston the next day after we went to New York again. New York was a really cool city. The next morning I was in a dream I thought the noise was in it but it was the alarm clock. That day we got on another boat and went to see the Statue of Libery, she didn't look that big. It was really really fun. What have you guys been doing? Hope you're having fun. Teresa.

Swimming

Our pool has been open for 1 week now. I have been practicing my swimming and when I go back to New Zealand I'm going to be so fast because I go up to the pool everyday. I go up once in the morning and once in the afternoon. I do freestyle, backstroke and I sometimes do breathstroke. I can't do butterfly because its too hard for me. If you want to see my fast swimming, I have a video for you.

Soccer - One Big Game!

One day Eru and us three girls got dresed and went downstairs to play soccer. we started of by practicing our soccer. We started off by practicing our kicking, we kicked the ball for about 5 or 10 minutes. Once we had finished our kicking I got to pick who was on my team. Eru thought I would pick him but he was mistaken. I picked Michelle. He said "come on Leslie, we're going to beat them".

We had picked out team and we were ready to play. Eru and Leslie scored the first goal, the goals weren't even so we made it that they had to touch the pole. Out of me and Michelle, I was the only one to score the goal. After that I was ready to get another goal. Michelle said "Teri, Teri, I'm on your team, Ow! I hurt my hip". We laughed and so did she. Eru tripped up so Michelle said "Teri, get a goal" but I was too slow. Eru got up and blocked me, Leslie was pretty good and we had fun. At the end we were tired and thirsty so we went back upstairs. It was hot.

I Y soccer!

Charlotte's Web

Book review: Charlotte's Web
Author: E.B. White

This book is about a little pig called Wilbur. One night there was a pig who had babies. Wilbur was the youngest baby piglet. Fern was a little girl. Her brother was called Avery. Fern asked where her father is. Her mother said "in the farm yard". She ran out to her father and he had an axe. She tried to stop him from trying to kill the pig. At last he gave the pig to Fern. Avery said to his parents "Why don't I get a pig, well, sweet heart, the pig's a bit too big". Avery was sad. One day Fern went for a walk with her pram, Wilbur followed on. Whenever he was tired, Fern will pick him up and put him in the pram next to the doll. When Wilbur was old enough, Fern's parents said to Fern that she needs to sell the pig. They charged her uncle for $6.00. She gave the pig to her uncle and he gave her the $6.00. Each day Fern went to visit him. They were both sad. The End.

I give this book a mark of 9 out of 10.

But before we went to the White house we went to the White house visitors centre where there are pictures of Michelle Obama and her kids on a swing set. Did you now that Michelle Obama is the first lady, how cool. What have you guys been learning about, I am learning about the planets. Hope you write back. From Teresa

Teresa at Disneyland!

Hi room15 quess what? Today I went to Disneyland for the third day in a row. My favourite thing was the rollercoaster/(screamcoaster). It was really fun. I kept going on it. At the start you go really fast. When it goes upside down I close my eyes. The thing I hated was the tower of terror because it starts off slow then goes fast up and down. But otherwise Michelle,Leslie, and I had heaps of fun. Also on the fearfall I got a fright because I thought it just drops me down but it shoots you up as well. We took heaps of photos with heaps of Disney characters. DISNEYLAND ROCKS!!!!! It is the coolest place ever - you guys would all love it!

Please write back to me.

Capture the Flag

On Friday Morning Miss King invited Room 15 to play Capture the Flag. Before we played Miss King Precisely explained the rules then she divided us into Teams. Next we went out side and played. After she set the cones out she said To Room 14 "Go and hop in a line on this side and room 15 go and hop in a line on that side." When we hoped in a line Miss King said ''Go'' and everyone sprinted off like a herd of stampeding animals trying to get the flag. When everyone ran after the flag Shoal, Kobe, Ashleigh and Rita guarded the flag so room 14 would not be able to get it. After a while Logan ran and got the flag. As Logan got the flag Ramona and Mary turned the other way so most of Room 15 got into the circle.
I got tagged so I had to wait for some to rescue me. After I gratefully got rescued by Mary from our class I ran in the circle and said to Logan, "Give me the flag because they won't know I'll have it."
When Logan gave me the flag I ran but I got tugged. After that Mary got the flag off me and gave it to someone else in my team. She gave it to Logan again. Whenshe got the flag he ran back to the safe zone and got us a point.
At the end Miss King and Miss Wood added up the points. Miss King said "Room 15 won."
Every one in Room 14 said, "Good playing Room 15," and we said it back to them.
When the game finished everyone got exhausted and sweaty. We are looking forward to playing again.

My Holiday at Taupo Bay

On Saturday morning my sisters and I went to the beach fro a swim and a picnic.
When we got to the beach my sisters went for a swim while I lay out on the picnic mat. After I while I went for a swim with my sisters.
When I hopped in the water my sister said, "Come out where it's deep." So I started to go out deep. But before I could get out deep a wave washed me back in so I had to swim out to where se was. When I got to her I was tired. "I'm going back because the waves are too rough," I said.
As I went back to the picnic mat I saw a shark. As soon as I saw it I ran and screamed. My sister Michelle said, "What's wrong?"
I screamed back at her, " There's a shark!!" My sister ran and screamed too. When my sister saw the shark she said, "Run, run. Get away from it". So I ran.
When my sister Michelle and I went back to the picnic mat, the sharks went away. So my sister said, "Come on Teresa let's go back home."
So we went home and played a game of soccer, hit and roll, cricket, pool, Rummikub, Whoonu and Skip Bo.
